Abstract
Geo-synthetic horizontal drain material (GHD) has been developed to reinforce clay fill of high water content. Hence large displacement that becomes the main factor to govern the limit state condition for the facility of concerning structure may be inevitably generated by the self-weight of the fill. The limit equibrium method is currently applied for designing installation of GHDs. The limit analysis presupposes the limit state condition for the earth pressure and sliding of mass. They relates to the elementary factor composed of the limit state design. Hence the sensibility to the large displacement provides many problems to be overcome on the application of limit state design to the fill reinforced by GHDs. This paper is aimed to arrange the ways and contents to apply the limit state design to the fill improved by GHDs. Consequently, it is concluded that since there is nothing like the rigid concrete slabe, the definition related to the state limit design can be established with the limit condition for the facility of structure attached the clay fill improved by GHD. This requires the displacement analysis as the parameters for designing.
