The Japanese Clinical Orthopaedic Association (JCOA) has conducted a questionnaire survey of member medical institutions on the results in school children who visited the hospital after school medical screening for disorders of the locomotive system since fiscal year 2016. In fiscal year 2020, 2833 cases were reported. The diagnosis was scoliosis in the majority, followed in frequency by Osgood-Schlatter disease, lumbar spondylolysis, baseball elbow, and other conditions. Measures taken after the diagnosis were guidance and follow-up in 50.4% of cases, and referral to other specialists in 2.8%. A tendency towards increase of suspected scoliosis as the reason for referral to a doctor over the last 5 years was observed.
