I reviewed our findings of joint fluid analysis from patients with knee joint diseases in our clinic, focusing on the white blood cell-to-neutrophil ratio. The most severe inflammation was pyogenic arthritis, followed by pseudogout, rheumatoid arthritis (hereinafter “RA”), and gout. Osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis, and traumatic arthritis were classified as mild inflammation. I further investigated the details of the cases of pseudogout, RA, and gout, all of which need to be differentiated from each other. I found that the white blood cell count was significantly higher in pseudogout than in gout. No significant difference in the white blood cell count was observed between pseudogout and RA, or between RA and gout.
