Abstract
A 69-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of bowel obstruction in cancer of the transverse colon. Abdominal CT scan revealed a low density mass with clear boundary in the liver (S7), and the periphery bile duct was dilated. First, transverse colectomy was performed, and 3 months later, right posterior segmentectomy was performed. Pathologically, the colon tumor was well differentiated adenocarcinoma and mucinous carcinoma, and the liver tumor had the same histology. Immunohistochemical study showed that both tumors were positive for CK20 and negative for CK7. Therefore, we diagnosed this case as liver metastasis of colon cancer.
It is rare that a metastatic liver tumor involves the bile duct. We report this rare case of liver metastasis of colon cancer with differentiation from cholangiocellular carcinoma, together with a review of the literature.
