Abstract
Clinical studies of inflammatory polyp (IP) in 97 cosecutive cases of ulcerative colitis encountered at Tokyo Women's Medical College for 8-year period were shown. Among 32 operated cases, the frequency of IP was 66% and 54% of them showed diffuse distribution (diffuse polyposis). On the other hand, 28% of 65 cases treated medically had IP, most of which are not diffuse ones. From our clinical series, we conclude that 1) IP is non-specific inflammatory change of severe intensity ; 2) IP distribute mostly through the sigmoid colon extending up to the transverse colon ; 3) the most common varieties which harbor IP are the chronic relapsing type in clinical course and the total colon type in extent of the disease.
