This is a report of comparative studies on the rectal prolapse in Japan as well as in western countries.
Treatments of procidentia of the rectum have been much progressed in recent years, due to a clear understanding etiology and mechanism of the disease, there are still some unsolved problems remained though.
General conception, classification, sex and age distribution, duration, patho-physiology, causation, treatment of choice, and anal incontinence of the rectal prolapse are discussed.
It is interesting, there are some differences in between Japan and western countries, in facts that, younger male patients are common in Japan but older female cases are pro-minent in the U. S. A. and Europe.
