Pathophysiology of Rectal Prolapse

Abstract

Abnormalities of bowel movements are observed in about half of the patients with rectal prolapse.
Anorectal manometry carried out in five patients with rectal prolapse disclosed that 3 of these patients showed normal resting pressure profile and normal recto-anal reflex, whereas 2 patients showed normal recto-anal reflex, but decreased anal canal pressure and shortened high pressure zone.
