Ninety-six patients with rectal prolapse (67 male, 29 female cases) underwent opera-tive treatment, in past twenty-two years.
Recurrences of the disease were observed in 21 of 47 cases who were operated by perineal and per-anal methods. Rectopexy methods were indicated in 31 cases, to presacral ligament and, in 25 cases, to minor psoas muscle. In these 56 cases, which included 11 re-operated patients, three recurrent cases were observed. In six anterior resection cases, there was one failed patient.
The recent rectopexy procedure is performed by unilateral or bilateral peritoneal cision, posterior mobilization and upward fixation of rectum to the ligament or the muse and there is no need of repair of pelvic floor and resection of redundant bowel segme: This method is more simplified and effective to be initially indicated for surgery of rec prolapse.
