Abstract
The mortality from colorectal cancer has been increasing in Japan and the early detection is considered the best way to decrease the incidence. In these 3 years, a total of 21, 985 patients in Kumamoto prefecture were screened with immnological fecal occult blood test and sigmoid fiberscopy.
The results were that 86 cases of colorectal cancer of.which 48 were advanced cancer and 38 early cancer were found with the finding rate of 0.39%. Among of them 52 cases were negative on immnogological fecal occult blood test although 18 cases of this group had a symptom of melena. If we perform further minute examination for the cases in which occult blood test is positive and also which show a symptom of melena, the finding rate of cancer is supposed to become 0.28%.
By this mass detection method of ours, survival rate of colorectal cancer patients in Japan will be able to be increased approximately 30%.
