Screening for Colorectal Diseases with Anal Disorders by Colonofiberscope

Abstract

Of 3, 629 adult cases with anal disorders seen during the period from 1991 to 1994 by our clinic, 3, 016 patients underwent colonofiberscopic examination. Polypoid lesions were detected in 378 cases. Many of them (305 cases, 70.4%) were adenomas, thirty-eight of which were rectal carcinoma. The incidence of rectal was 1.3% in patients over 50 years old, this was very high as compared with the same aged population without anal disorders.
These data suggested that the screening using colonofiberscope for patients with anal disorders was a useful procedure.
