Abstract
Anorectal function in 12 patients, of mean age 75 years, was studied before and after Deloreme's operation for complete rectal prolapse. After a mean follow-up of 35 months, one patient had developed recurrent prolapse. Four of 7 patients with fecal incontinence achieved improved continence after surgery. No patient had difficulty in evacuation after surgery. Anal resting and squeeze pressures were significantly increased after surgery. Fecal sensation volume and maximum tolerable volume were significantly reduced after surgery. These physiological changes seemed to be associated with improved continence and no difficulty in evacuation after Delorme's operation.
