Abstract
A laboratory test was carried out to find the correlation among the galvanic current density, which is the shortcircuited current density between the two inserted electrodes (magnesium and mild steel), measured by the suggested method in homogeneous environments, the specific resistance of modified environments and the microcorrosion losses of mild steel specimens subjected to the modified environments.
The relation obtained is expressed as follows:
A=k×IaκD×ρ-b
where, A: microcorrosion rate of mild steel (mm/yr), computed from the corrosion losses of specimens
IκD: galvanic current density (μA/cm2)
ρ: specific resistance (Ω-cm)
k, a, b: constants
Basing on the laboratory test results, a practical apparatus suitable for actual field conditions was designed and manufactured.
