Abstract

Cathodic protection has been applied on the surface condensers operating with sea water. The condenser consists of aluminum brass tube (1 inch in diameter) bundles and cast iron shells. We carried out potential measurements of operating condensers by installing sea-water calomel electrode on the tube plate, and confirmed potential distribution over the internal surface of tube, to study the effect of current density and velocity of running water on the protective range. The results were as follows:
1) The measured potential on tube plate varied with the condition of coatings over the internal surface of cast iron shell.
2) The protective range was spread by increasing current density and decreasing velocity, but it was limitted to the distance of 500mm from tube plate.
