Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of portfolio assessment on students' achievement concerning "Thought and Judgement" ability in health education classes and the students' evaluation of health education classes. As a result, the study revealed the effectiveness of portfolio assessment in health education classes as regards the following three points: 1. Working on the developmental assignments enabled over 90% of students to reach B-grade (which is regarded as a standard level) and above in "Thought and Judgement" ability. 2. Studetnts' evaluation of health education classes has shown that "good class" and "good learning" connect with the factors of "motivating" and "fruitful" in achieving a high score through portfolio assessment. 3. The portfolio conference plays a very important role in portfolio assessment. Because, students' "Thought and Judgement" ability and their evaluation of health education classes improved after the portfolio conference.
