Abstract

Currently, renewable energy has been attracting attention as a tool to resolve various environmental and energy issues. However, renewable energy cannot provide a stable power supply due to the influence of the climate. Therefore, we are aiming to develop a “Multiple energy storage system” using the superconductor (SC) to compensate for the fluctuating power. In previous research, we demonstrated the magnetic levitation of permanent magnets (PMs) on both sides of the SC and rotational motion by exciting coil. However, we found out that it was difficult to increase the capacity of the system by a single SC. In this paper, we investigated the possibility of using multiple SCs for magnetic levitation of larger PMs (rotating bodies). In addition, we attempted to suppress the vibration of the rotating bodies during rotation. As a result, the magnetic levitation and rotation of the large PMs in this system was successfully realized. Then, an SC coil reduced the characteristic variation of the multiple SCs and suppressed the vibration of the rotating bodies. Therefore, the experiment showed that it was possible to build a large-scale system.
