Abstract

In this study, an experiment was conducted using a single inverter to simultaneously drive two types of high-temperature superconducting induction/synchronous motors with mechanical outputs that differ by more than one order of magnitude. The drive control was performed using a commercially available pulse width modulation inverter for two motors with maximum mechanical outputs of 40 and 1 kW. The experimental results demonstrated that a stable mechanical output can be achieved even when a load is applied to a 1 kW-class motor under conditions in which a 40 kW-class motor is driven without load. This result is an important achievement in considering various high-temperature superconducting motor system applications, and is the first demonstration data on the simultaneous control of multiple superconducting motors.
