Abstract
Tl-1223 materials have a high potential for application to practical wires operating in liquid nitrogen because have high irreversible fields at 77K. However, Jc values across a grain boundary with misorien. tation angles over 10° decrease significantly because of a weak-link behavior. In order to achieve high Jcs, the crystallographic orientation of the Tl-1223 wire must possess a high degree of both inplane and out-of-plane grain alignment over the entire length of the conductor. Recent efforts have focused on developing a cube-textured metallic tape substrate and conti nuous processing of Tl-1223-coated conductors on the substrate. In this review, recent research in superconducting properties, crystallographic orientation and fabrication methods regarding Tl-1223-coated conductors are introduced. This review points out some problems awaiting solutions.
