Abstract
The design, calculation and operational performances of the Low Temperature Fissiochemical Loop, LTFL were explained as an example of the low temperature loops. The low temperature capsule irradiation of simple chemical reactants to about 80°K in the presence of enriched uranium fuel was made possible with the LTFL. Thermal characteristics of the Loop was stated, including the control of the irradiation temperature and the radiation heating of the in-pile section of the Loop. Some typical low temperature in-pile loops were surveyed about their characteristics as the irradiation facilities in the nuclear reactors and as the cryogenic apparatus. General comments were also made as to the relationship among the design parameters of the loops.
