Abstract
Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.), which is grown commercially in more than 70 countries worldwide, is one of the most important agricultural products for export and domestic consumption. Recently, reports have confirmed that nitrogen fixation by associative endophytic bacteria has contributed significantly to the nitrogen economy of sugarcane. However, the physiology and mechanism of endophytic bacteria-sugarcane association has not been fully established. We are therefore interested to elucidate the interaction mechanism between these endophytic bacteria and sugarcane. In this paper, we report the isolation and some properties of the bacteria found in sugarcane juice.
