Abstract

In this study, we introduced the use of a 3D printer to fabricate an equal number diploid and tetraploid abutment tooth models. Furthermore, in order to investigate its application in the field of education, we administered a questionnaire survey to students and dentists. The questionnaire included questions on the following: (1) visualization of the contour of the abutment tooth, the taper applied to the abutment tooth, and the finish line, (2) whether the use of each of the abutment tooth models should be incorporated into the prosthetic dentistry practice at our university, and (3) whether it would be better to reproduce and add the medullary canal to this model. The students rated the tetraploid teeth highest for all the questions, while the dentists rated the equal size teeth highest with respect to the taper, and the equal size teeth highest in all other questions. It is suggested that a 3D printer can be used to produce custom-made abutment tooth models tailored to suit the requirements of students at different educational levels.
