Abstract : At present, various kinds of medical agents against the bactria in root canals system are in clinical use, but no clincher of the bacteria has been found yet. The antibiotic substances have been use as leading star medicines against them, but the successive appearances of various resistant bactria such as MRSA, VREF, etc. in these days caused serious problems in the world, and it is pointed out that the seriousness is particulaly remarkable in Japan.
The purpose of this paper is, giving attention to the meaning of the antibacterial measure against the bacteria in root canals, to examine the properties, safty, and sterilizing action of the tannin to be applied to the measure, as well as to study its clinical application.
First, the tannin forms are stable three dimensional structure by the bridging connection with the collagen of the dentin. Since the tannin’s bridging distance is 5 Å, microorganisms’ invasion cannot be allowed. This provides a ground in an evidence of the antibacterial property of the tannin.
Next the collagen of the cultured cell has the structure similar to that of the collagen compounded in the germ cell of the dentin. From this, observing the reaction of this cultured collagen to the added tannin, an impediment in the growth of the collagen was not seen. Furthermore, the experiment of the oncogenesis by using the Mm2Tcell did not show any change in the chromosome number of the Mm2Tcell. In addition, comparing the medium of human saliva in which the tannin was added with that control, it was seen that the colony of the medium of human saliva with the tannin did no so much develop.
These experiment enable a conjecture that the tannin has the properties of safty and sterilizing action.
Application of the tannin to the case of the positive apical lesion as a sealer for filling a root canal in a practice made satisfactory healing progress.
