Abstract

Abstract : I believe modern dentists have to study comprehensive medicine. If they did, it would be significant for more complete treatment and the progress of dentistry, because most diseases that dentists deal with have their roots in people’s daily lives. Dentists have to consider the patient as a whole person. Hippocrates, often called the “Father of Comprehensive Medicine”, completed his medical text in 460 B. C., and published it as the Corpus Hippocraticum. After the 19th century, Some great psychosomatic doctors developed comprehensive medicine, including Engel, G. L., Valint, M., Frankl, V. E., Takasima, H. and Locke, S. E., Weil, A., et al. They referred to their field variously as Biopsychosocial Medicine, Whole Person Medicine, Logotherapy, Humanistic Psychosomatic Medicine or Alternative Medicine. In this thesis, I will make clear the differences among them and explain their significance for the development of dentistry.
