[Aims] : This study aimed to investigate the tendency of cosmetic dermatitis and to identify cosmetic allergens as well as the responsible cosmetics in 2013.
[Methods] : We performed a 48-hour closed test on the back of patients, who consulted our clinic with suspicion of cosmetic dermatitis in 2013. Patch testing was performed with each patient's own cosmetics, the Japanese standard series, and cosmetically relevant allergens that were possibly related to their dermatitis. Results were assessed according to the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group recommendations. A reaction stronger than or equal to (+) was regarded as a positive reaction.
[Results] : We patch tested a total of 123 patients with suspected cosmetic dermatitis. Of these, 39 patients exhibited positive reactions to their cosmetics, 15 of which had contact dermatitis due to Rhododenol.
[Conclusion] : In 2013, there were more cases of contact dermatitis caused by exposure to basic cosmetics than are usually seen in an average year.
