Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of topical application of tranexamic acid with bipolar hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fractures. Patients received 1.0 g tranexamic acid applied into the joint at the time of surgical closure. Compared to the non-administered group, the group that received 1 g of tranexamic acid had significantly less postoperative hemoglobin, hematocrit and estimated blood loss. In conclusion, the use of topical application of tranexamic acid is expected to reduce blood loss and blood transfusion rate.
