Abstract

Measurements of atmospheric sulfur dioxide (SO2) and sulfate particles were performed in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the Noto Peninsula from October 2013 to March 2014. SO2 higher than 10 ppb which is hardly detected even in a big city in Japan and high concentrations of sulfate particles were frequently observed due to the influence of trans-boundary pollution from the Asian continent. Both air pollution from the industrial regions around the Bohai and Yellow seas and that from the big cities in northeastern China may highly affect air quality in Suzu City. Relatively high concentrations of SO2 which might have been derived from the smoke of Sakurajima were also observed in July 2013.
