Abstract

Owing to the increasing demand for Ka-band communications, Resolution 169 (WRC 19) allocated additional frequencies to ESIM in satellite communications and specified the technical requirements for ESIM that can be shared with terrestrial systems. To protect terrestrial systems, Resolution 169 limits the PFD per aircraft. To accurately determine the PFD at the base station of terrestrial systems, it is important to estimate the effect of attenuation due to the fuselage. This paper reports the radiation pattern with and without the mockup of the fuselage using a horn antenna in an anechoic chamber. The attenuation due to the fuselage was measured, and the measurement results were compared with the analytical results.
