Abstract
A high efficiency and small trochoid gear fan was developed. It is important to reduce leakage loss to achieve a high efficiency trochoid gear fan. A test fan having a basic inner radius of 20mm is designed for experimentation. The volume flow rate and the pressure rise of the fan are measured using a test apparatus with 2 different kinds of casing cover. The results are summarized as follows: (1) It is possible to improve the mass flow rate by 9.3% and pressure rise by 5.3% by using a casing cover with a labyrinth seal. (2) In order optimize fan performance, it is necessary to set the casing with labyrinth seal at 180deg.
