Abstract

To develop the monitoring system for the carbon sinks under the Kyoto Protocol, the method of forest stand measurement using 3D imaging sensor was examined. In a forest stand on a sloping terrain, the diameter of tree stems in various height were measured by the 3D imaging sensor. The stem volume of the stand were calculated by using of the MINOWA method developed from the BITTERLICH method. The estimated stem volumes were less than the volume of the truth, but almost the same as the volume of the truth above SASA vegetation.
