A simulator for analyzing traffic jams in city area developed based on FUZZY theory will be presented. To develop a road traffic simulator, many models such as road model, vehicle model and route decision model are required. Among them, vehicle model is the most complicated one since it should be able to reflect driver's characteristics. FUZZY theory is applied here to overcome the mentioned difficulties. In this application there are two major problems to solve. One is designing an appropriate road model to fit the FUZZY model. The other one is constructing a FUZZY processing system fast enough to handle all necessary FUZZY inferences. A solution for both problenms will be introduced here. It will be shown that the developed FUZZY model using a hierarchy configuration based on a multi-cascade FUZZY inference engine has the ability of simulating traffic on real roads. The parallel processing structure used for FUZZY calculations will appear fast enough to obtain necessary calculatingspeed.
