Focusing on the hydraulic conductivity of compacted bentonite mixed soil, its various affecting factors, mechanism of impermeability development, and its formation process were investigated experimentally. Using the compacted bentonite-mixed soil specimens in various mixture ratio and compaction conditions, it was cleared that the hydraulic conductivity changes depending on the bentonite mixture ratio, dry density and water content during compaction . In addition, by observing the soil particle pore structure of compacted specimens with stereo microscope, it was found that the impermeability of compacted bentonite mixed soil is brought by the coating of absorbed bentonite gel and decrease of soil particle pore area which water can penetrate during the permeability test. Finally, the formation process of impermeability was investigated, and it was found that it starts from the agglomeration of soil, bentonite, and water during those mixing, secondly flattening and interconnection of this aggregate during compaction, and lastly reswelling of bentonite gel during the saturation process before permeability test.
