Abstract
The objective of this study was to clarify the applicability of a method for modeling irregularly shaped natural stones for use in the analysis using the granular element method. In order to enable practical applicability of stability evaluation by this analysis, it is necessary to demonstrate the quantitative validity of the force condition for sliding of the modeled stones. This led us to simulate the actual tilting test of the floor under three piled natural stones that were measured and were made into models. The floor angles at which these three piled stones begin to move violently were in good agreement with the corresponding angles obtained in actual tests. Based on the simulation results, we proposed an appropriate method for modeling natural stones for stability evaluation.
