Abstract

  Five species of the family Mniaceae, Cinclidium stygium Sw. (C. subantarctium Roiv., syn. nov.), Mnium marginatum (With.) P. Beauv., Plagiomnium cuspidatum (Hedw.) T. Kop., P. ellipticum (Brid.) T. Kop. and P. rhynchophorum (Hook.) T. Kop. occur in South and Central America. The synonymy of P. rhynchophorum includes Mnium rostratum (Schrad.) T. Kop. var. americanum Hampe, M. rostratum var. ligulatum Herz., M. rostratum var. occidentale Hampe, M. chloroloma C. Müll., M. rigidulum C. Müll., M. ligulatum C. Müll., M. orbifolium C. Müll., M. fluviatile C. Müll., M. marginatulum C. Müll., M. microblastum C. Müll., and M. rhynchomitrium C. Müll.; all are syn. nov.
