Abstract
In this study, the validity of the“Stress-Coping Test”for health check-up examinees was investigated. Firstly, the confirmatory factor analysis was performed on twelve items with hypothesized four-factor solution. It was revealed that two items were loaded on the other two factors than hypothesized factor structure, but the factor structure, as a whole, fits statistically. Secondly, the coping weight scores were calculated depending on factor loading scores. As a result, the average scores with S. D. [range] were as follows: active behavioral coping, 66.3±18.4 [33-132] ; distraction, 36.2±9.3 [21-78] ; passive resignation, 38.8±11.1 [22-88] ; avoidance, 25.9±7.9 [14-55] . The correlation between passive resignation and avoidance was statistically high (γ=0.83) . These two factors seemed to represent‘passive coping behavior’.
In conclusion, the“Stress-Coping Test” for health check-up examinees had high structural validation, and could be used conveniently because of its compact size and brief scoring system. Using this test for health check-up examinees and feeding the individual results back to them, they will be able to receive education about coping style and whole life style.
