Abstract
Subacute thyroiditis (SAT) is a self-limiting inflammatory disorder of the thyroid gland that is accompanied by anterior neck pain and fever. The etiology of SAT is related to viral infections. Additionally, histocompatibility antigen B-35 (HLA-B35) plays an important role in the onset or recurrence of SAT. Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, cases of COVID-19-associated SAT have been reported worldwide. We herein present the case of a 35-year-old Japanese woman with HLA-B35 who developed SAT 16 days after the diagnosis of COVID-19. The symptoms of COVID-19 and SAT were mild, and she recovered with acetaminophen treatment only.
