Abstract

The purpose of this study was to clarify the actual situation of the departments that handle JCI accreditation in healthcare institutions. From July 2015 to March 2016, a semi-structured interview survey was conducted on the key person in charge at 5 healthcare institutions that had acquired, or were preparing to acquire, JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditations.
The result indicated that the organizational structure tended to set up an independent department with a focus on JCI, and also set up a staff department supervising overall preparation for the accreditation. These tendencies were a result of neccessity to correspond with the overseas organizations and from a recognition of the importance of cross-hospital work. In addition, they were comfirmed to promote the accreditation preparation under the many profession's cooperation with the existing professional committee.
