Abstract
In the section of general surgery in our hospital, thirteen critical paths (following, CP) have been working. Standardization of orders of doctor was organized in making CP collaborated with nurse and the other concerned. Thereby patient can be received the same treatment in the same disease in our department.
The use of CP led the settlement of patient's anxiety and faithless by uninformed treatment and the introduction EBM in our treatment. In addition, we tried to abolish shaving body hair and use antibiotics properly according to CDC guideline (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). However, we permitted the choice of two kinds of antibiotics in one disease and elongation of days it used for 3 days for young doctors.
After that, the estimation of SSI (Surgical Site Infections) in our department utilizing surveillance of SSI encouraged us to shorten medication days with one antibiotic each disease. Finally, amount of antibiotics decreased less than half of amount two years ago. This brought the improvement of the business as well as decreasing risk and cost.
Medical standardization is thought to get rid of a feeling of patient's discredit to medical treatment and facilitate medical workers to intake new medical technology and EBM. In future, comparison and correction of CP among many facilities will make new EBM, which might promote further standardization of medical treatment, improvement of patient's satisfaction, rationalization of medical treatment, and improvement of medical quality.
