Oral corticosteroids (OCS) are essential and indispensable drugs for treating eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS). However, no standardized protocol for their use exists, and the choice of drugs, dosages, and indications vary among institutions and otolaryngologists. The goal is to avoid the indiscriminate and excessive use of OCS, employing only the necessary amount when needed. To achieve this, it is crucial to consider and implement alternative treatment options, including surgery. This article reviews the following: 1) the types of synthetic steroids and their basic knowledge, 2) the use of OCS in the perioperative period, and 3) the use of OCS during long-term management.
