Abstract
A survey was conducted between 2010 and 2012 to study the rate of detection and drug sensitivity of drug-resistant bacteria by age group in adult patients with acute rhinosinusitis and compare these results with those of a survey conducted between 2008 and 2009. This study was performed to determine whether the antibacterial drugs indicated in the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Adult Acute Rhinosinusitis 2010 (Guidelines 2010) are appropriate in current clinical practice. Compared with the results obtained in the 2008-2009 survey, the number of drug-resistant bacteria showed an increasing trend and drug resistance was noted in all age groups. The antibacterial drugs indicated in the Guidelines 2010 are appropriate, considering the status of drug-resistant bacterial infections. The judicious use of antibacterial drugs is therefore vital for preventing an increase in the frequency of drug resistance.
