Abstract

Salvage surgery after chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for malignant neoplasms is expected to result in delayed wound healing. Complications such as wound infection, bleeding, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks occur frequently, especially during skull base reconstruction surgery. Therefore, strict long-term follow-up is required to ensure that complications are managed until the wound becomes epithelialized. In the present study, we encountered a case of wound infection, bleeding, and CSF leakage after salvage surgery for SWI/SNF complex-deficient sinonasal carcinoma with anterior skull base reconstruction that was treated with wound debridement and CSF leak closure. In CSF leak closure after salvage surgery, the materials used for skull base reconstruction are limited due to previous surgeries and CRT, and the choice of materials and method of reconstruction must be carefully considered in each case. In the present case, because the defect in the skull base was small and the flow of the CSF leak was relatively low, a skull base reconstruction method using a free graft was selected, and the CSF leak was able to be stopped.
