We retrospectively reviewed 31 patients who presented to our department between November 2016 and July 2022 and who were diagnosed with primary malignancies of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. We analyzed the pathological type, stage of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), first treatment, overall survival (OS) of SCC patients, and outcome. There were 19 patients with SCC and 12 with non-squamous cell carcinoma (non-SCC). Thirteen patients with SCC were initially treated at our hospital. Surgery was the first treatment option for T4a disease. Although the individual case backgrounds differed, the reference 3-year OS rate for all 13 cases was 62.5%. Malignant melanoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma are common in non-SCC. One patient had malignant melanoma, and two had adenoid cystic carcinoma. Heavy-ion radiotherapy is considered a promising treatment for non-SCC. The number of cases in this study was limited and selection bias could not be completely eliminated; therefore, a further analysis with a larger number of cases would be desirable in the future.
