Abstract
The authors applied “Lysozym”, a sort of Mucopolysaccharase, to tonsillectomy, in which 50 mg of this drug was injected mixed with a local anesthetic. The efficacy was evaluated by the postoperative findings of the side to which Lysozym was applied, compared with those of the opposite side to which it was not done.
1) The redness of the Lysozym-applied side was slighter than that of the opposite side.
2) Postoperative edema was observed only on the opposite side.
3) Postoperative pain was more intense in 7 cases on the Lysozym-applied side, and in 17 cases on the opposite side.
4) White membrane was observed on the wound at the time of leaving hospital in 13 cases. Among them it was thicker on the Lysozym-applied side in 12 cases.
5) Out of the 25 cases which complained of the pain at swallowing when they left hospital, 18 cases complained of more intense pain on the opposite side. In general, postoperative redness, edema and pain were slighter on the Lysozymapplied side than on the opposite side, and the efficacy of Lysozym was 70 percent.
