Abstract
The authors recently experienced rhinogenous meningitis following pansinectomy in a patient with partial deficit of the cranial base. This mishap was caused by insufficient observation of the X-ray film.
The patient, man aged 20, was operated under distinct vision under low blood pressure caused by Hexamothonium Chloride. The deficit was found unexpectedly at the roof of the ethmoid cells, through which one of the authors carelessly inserted the forceps and took out a piece of the cerebral tissue.
Though the symptoms of meningitis appeared on the night, the authors could bring the patient to cure without any residual symptoms by intraspinal penicillin injections and administration of various other antibiotics. It is believed that the intravenous injection of Aureomycin and the internal use of Erythromycin were especially effective.
