Abstract
Cefroxadine dry syrup was administered to 120 infants and children of acute purulent otitis media and the following clinical results were obtained: The responses were excellent in 42 cases, good in 50, fair in 11 and poor in 17. The efficacy rate including good and excellent responses was 76.7%. The administered doses in 89 cases (74 %) ranged from 30mg/kg to less than 35mg/kg. From the 120 patients, 136 strains were isolated in the descending order of S. aureus (28.7%), S. pneumoniae (14.7%), H. influenzae (8.8%) and β-Streptococus A group (7.4%). Side effects reported were rash and diarrhoea in 1 case each but were not so severe as to discontinue the treatment.
