Abstract
Effects of xylocaine via i. v. administration were studied using 42 patients with unilateral subjective tinnitus injected once a week during 8 successive weeks on the average. Short-term effects were so noted as loudness was diminished in 81.0% at first administration. Subjective evaluation 2 months later revealed 59.5% as the rate of disappearance of loudness. Auditory brain-stem responses showed no changes when 40 to 60 mg of xylocaine were i. v. injected. The mechanism of i. v. administered xylocaine was ascribed from referential studies to the central anesthetic action inferentially.
