Abstract
A newly developed antibiotic preparation, 1% CMX Otic Solution was evaluated for its clinical value, with the following results obtained. The effectiveness rate of 1% CMX Otic Solution was 89.9% (98 cases out of 109), that is, 93.0% (66 cases out of 71) with acute exacerbations of chronic purulent otitis media and 72.2% (13 cases out of 18) with chronic otitis media. With respect to the microbiological effect of 1% CMX Otic Solution, it was observed that microorganisms were eliminated by 1% CMX Otic Solution in 94 out of 109 cases (86.2%), that is, 94.1% with S. aureus and 77.4% with P. aeruginosa. No side effects such as shock were observed in any case. Thus, 1% CMX Otic Solution has been judged as a remarkably useful topical otic antibiotic preparation.
