Abstract

A clinical study was conducted to evaluate the utility of Ceftriaxone (CTRX) in paranasal sinusitis, and the following results were obtained. Clinical efficacy was evaluated by the physician in charge to be 93.5% in acute (43/46) and 89.5% in chronic (17/19) infections, showing an excellent improvement rate. Clinical efficacy evaluated according to standardized criteria was 92.6%(25/27), and 91.7%(11/12) respectively, also indicating a high improvement rate. Bacterial efficacy, measured by the bacterial eradication rate, was 92.3%(42/45). Side effects were observed in 2.9%(2) of the cases, but both of these were of slight degree. The transfer of CTRX into the tissue membranes of the maxillary antrum was high: 76.5% at 60 minutes and 114.8% at 100 minutes when compared to blood concentrations at the same points in time.
