Abstract
Malignant melanoma of the nasal cavity is a rare disease. Eight cases with a malignant melanoma of the nasal cavity, experienced from 1978 to 1986, are reported. They were treated in various ways. Chemotherapy was performed on two cases because surgery was refused; one of these underwent a local injection of interferon-beta, resulting in a tumorfree interval of one and a half months, while the other showed a partial response to the intravenous administration of DTIC, ACNU, VCR and interferon beta. Simple surgical resection was performed in one case, and surgery was followed by chemotherapy in the remaining 5 cases. DTIC-and CDDP-based combination chemotherapy seemed to be effective ; however, it is difficult to control the lesion solely by chemotherapy, so radical surgery should also be resorted to.
