Abstract
The findings of MRI and CT were comparaed for acoustic tumors in 9 patients examined in our department from July 1985 to May 1986. In all of the 9 patients MRI showed the nerve bundle in the internal auditory meatus continuing into the tumor mass. In addition, the nerve bundle on the tumor free side could be viewed in 5 patients. MRI is superior to CT in the diagnosis of the intracanalicular tumors. MRI, as a safe and non-invasive method, should be the first diagnostic test in acoustic tumors suspected patients. In our opinion air CT, as a highly invasive method, should be the second choice in diagnosis.
