Abstract
The case reported is that of a 65-year-old male who was treated for clear cell tumor of the base of the tongue. The tumor was completely excised by the cervical approach under general anesthesia. Pathohis- tologic study of the resected tumor revealed a monomorphic variant composed of solid nests of clear cells partially infiltrated to the muscle. During the year following treatment, there has been neither recurrence nor metastesis of the tumor. Clear cell tumor is rare, but some cases have been confirmed in the parotid gland, submandibular gland or palate. Ours is the first report of clear cell tumor originating from the minor salivary gland of the base of the tongue. Clear cell tumor is considered biologically as a low grade malignancy because of its pattern of local infiltrative growth and low rate of recurrence and metastasis.
