Abstract
The author made various investigations of tinnitus in the patients of nerve deafness. Chief findings are as follows:
(1) Of 459 cases of nerve deafness, 67.8% was accompanied by tinnitus.
(2) The percentage of the accompaniment of tinnitus in the prepuberty period (below 20) is smaller than that in the post-puberty period (above 20). This difference is statistically significant.
(3) The accompanying tinnitus is observable in the frequency order of acoustic trauma, streptomycin deafness, Ménièe's symptom complex and head injury. Whether this difference is due to the differing causes themselves or whether it is due to other factors, e. g. age, could not be ascertained in the present investigations.
(4) Except a few cases, the acuity of hearing is worse on the tinnitus side than on the non-tinnitus side. This difference appears in the high tone area.
